RML Peak Performer Series: Moontricks + Sarah Orton
NOTE: This interview was recorded on Saturday, July 26th at Calgary Folk Fest. Due to busy schedules, audio editing noise around the media tent area, and waiting for the proper time to include in my content, I’ve been sitting on this one waiting to release it. Very fun interview that I’m stoked to put out there! Unfortunately, Nate from Moontricks couldn't make the interview so it's with Sean Rodman & Sarah Orton.
RML Profile: https://rockymountainl...
Based in the rustic Kootenay mountains of Western Canada, Nathan Gurley and Sean Rodman of nationally renowned electro-folk duo Moontricks draw inspiration from the ongoing cycles of the natural world. Both volatile and constant—like nature’s best offerings—the band finds solace and beauty in the fusion of seemingly disparate elements. There’s a kind of technicolor campfire quality to their uniquely hybrid sound: Each track is steeped in tradition and polished with a futuristic sheen, mixing organic folk, roots rock, and old-time blues with modern electronic production.
Sarah Orton is a multidisciplinary artist and Soul-Folk performer from the Kootenays, known for her rich, expressive tone and genre-blurring sound. With Doukhobor roots and a deep connection to the spirit of rock n roll, her music blends moody, soulful lullabies with echoes of blues, folk, old country, and R&B, always sprinkling in Motown-inspired harmonies when she can. A decade into her career, Sarah is stepping into a new era of artistry, performing both solo and in collaboration with a supporting band, when she's not found performing with other acts like Penny Shades, Moontricks, and Alissa Arnason to name a few. Her voice is a force — haunting, captivating, and rooted in something timeless.
