Victoria Folk Music Society weekly gathering: Everyone—welcome Jam 6:45pm, Open Stage 7:30pm, Feature Performers Chris Chandler and Paul Benoit at 9:00pm; Norway House, 1110 Hillside Avenue, $8 cash at the door
Expect the unexpected as poet and storyteller (and former Victoria resident) Chris Chandler returns to the VFMS! Originally from Stone Mountain, Georgia, Chris has been on or around the stage his whole life. He hit the road as a street performer in 1988, and he’s been there ever since, performing on thousands of stages across the US and Canada as well as for hundreds of organizations seeking social justice.
Tonight Chis joins forces with world-class roots and Americana guitar guru Paul Benoit. As ancient as the art form is – songwriting and storytelling – one would think the genre would be ubiquitous, but somehow, Benoit and Chandler stand alone! Delivering vignettes about politics and modern culture with the fire of a Baptist Preacher backed with music rooted in Americana and colored with the blues, their styles merge like lanes on an outbound interstate!
