Winners of the 2025 Banff International String Quartet Competition and the 2023 Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition, the Poiesis Quartet is quickly becoming one of the most exciting young ensembles on the scene. Known for their brilliance, communication, and inspired programming, they bring their artistry to Victoria for the first time in a program rich with storytelling, history, and cultural resonance.
The evening features “Pisachi (Reveal)” by Chickasaw composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate, the newly commissioned String Quartet No. 7 by Kevin Lau, and a quartet by Brian Raphael Nabors. The program continues attacca with Max Ball’s arrangement of the African-American spiritual “Calvary,” an then into Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson’s String Quartet No. 1 — a powerful and moving work.
