The Crowd
The Crowd d. Sahand Kabiri/Iran/2025/1:10:00/Persian with English Subtitles Hamed, a young, Iranian, gay man hails from a well-off religious family and shares a middle-class flat with his partner, Raman, who is set to emigrate in a few days. Raman is upset that he cannot spend his last days with their large group of close-knit, Gen Z friends because they don’t have an appropriate, safe venue to gather. Hamad, determined to help, decides to hold an underground party in a vacant warehouse belonging to his family, but without alerting the other owners. Despite the enthusiasm of their colourful group of friends to carve out a space to experience individual freedoms, the spectre of Iran’s patriarchal regime looms over their furtive plans.
Filmmaker Fun Fact: This underground film was self-funded and made totally independently during 12 very high risk days of shooting under extreme security conditions in Tehran.
Salma
As Hadi steps into the world, he is flooded with memories of the past in Tripoli, Lebanon. Filled with both bitter inner turmoil - religious, gender, sexuality, nationality as well as loving warmth, tenderness and affection. In response, he created Salma Zahore. A creature that encapsulates both the conflicts of his life and his declaration of love to the world. Neither male nor female, neither devout nor an atheist, neither dutiful nor deviant, both sexual yet celibate. Faceless, yet the face of hope for so many around them.
