Latin Rhythms Weekend of Workshops – a drumming treat.
Four days of percussion workshops over the Family Day long weekend. This is a chance to immerse yourself in rhythm – a musical vacation!
You are welcome to mix and match workshops – take as many or as few as you would like.
Many of the workshops feature instruments or rhythms not taught in the weekly classes. You can take as few as one workshop, or as many as all four days.
Instruments are provided for all workshops, including hand drums, krins, bass drums, bells, shakers, tambourines, bongos and xylophones.
You can learn on a variety of different instruments. Here's more info:
• Congas are Latin rhythms hand drums that come in three sizes.
• Surdos are a set of bass drums played with mallets that are part of the samba ensemble
• Kata are slit drums carved out of logs and played with sticks.
• Balafon is a West African traditional xylophone with gourd resonators.
• Cajon is a wooden box drum played in Latin music.
