Matt Beatty is an award winning singer/songwriter who has been performing professionally for the last 20 years. Primarily a skilled guitarist and vocalist Matt can also play a variety of other instruments. Matt was featured performing his song “Abigail” in the first episode of Paramount's “Joe Pickett”. With the variety internet podcast show "Shop Live YYC" Matt has interviewed some fantastic musicians such as Jesse Dayton (Austin), Deke Dickerson (Los Angeles), Haley Jensen (Australia), Paul Pigat (Vancouver) Steve Pineo (Calgary) plus many more.
Matt has also released three holiday songs “Time For Christmastime”, "Christmas Time Again" and the well received "Christmas In Calgary". 2025 will mark the release of Matt's first full length solo project “Songs From My Dads Old Guitar”. This 13 song project features Matt in a folkier setting with only an acoustic guitar. Original songs such as “Never Enough Time” & “Lovesick Fools” fit well with a couple of classics from Billy Joel & Bruce Springsteen. Available everywhere as of April 25 2025.
Matt's "Outlaw Country/Rockabilly" group DoubleSuede released two singles "Black Widow" and "Dive Bar Debutante" along with the EP "the deEP End" in 2023. DoubleSuede was nominated for Group of the Year at the 2023 YYC Music Awards. The album gained traction all over the world and was in the top 10 at Both CKUA and CJSW. 2025 will also see the group release a 13 song, live in studio, album featuring some classic crowd favourites along with 3 new original songs.
As a full time musician and a happily married father of "lots" Matt also pays the bills as a highly in-demand performer of other people's material. In a nutshell Matt performs as:
Acoustic solo - Like a one man dueling pianos show. All request...All mayhem. (All Genres)
Sequenced solo - Sounds like a full band but its just Matt (All Genres)
Rock Band - with his band "The Hot Tamales" performing party songs and keeping a dance floor going all night.
Country Band - Classic country and newer styles. Perfect for the barn or the Stampede Party
Eastcoast/Celtic - High energy eastcoast dance songs
Outlaw Country/Rockabilly - DoubleSuede. Best compared to a 50's style free for all.
Matt Beatty has performed all over western Canada in honkytonks, bars and world class resorts such as The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Matt has also played across Canada, literally. This includes playing on the Via Rail train over a 4 day cross Canada trip as well as stand alone shows in Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton and Quebec City. Matt also takes great pride in his history of playing outside Canada for events such as Canada Day in Vladivostok Russia, or at resorts in the Dominican Republic, Turks & Caicos and Mexico. Matt's favourite gig memory is performing at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.
Matt has been seen through many different media formats such as Global TV, The Calgary Herald and Sun. Not to mention a front page spread in the Star Phoenix (Saskatoon) plus banner spreads in the Montreal Gazette, Edmonton Sun and Vancouver Province.
