Event Description
Sandy Lecour is living proof that it’s never too late to pursue a creative passion. Based in Canmore, Alberta, Sandy didn’t begin writing music until she was 60, but she’s been making up for lost time, creating songs that are honest, playful, and full of heart. Her journey into music is as unexpected as it is inspiring: a retired Paralympic gold medallist in Nordic skiing, Sandy spent her life finding joy in new adventures, working as a massage therapist and acupuncturist, even as she gradually lost her eyesight to Stargardt’s disease.
Her new album, Listen T' Me, is a 10-track collection that highlights this vibrant range, with each song telling a story, each story demonstrating resilience and creativity.
Music has become Sandy’s latest passion and her favourite way to share her stories. Whether she’s reflecting on family history in “Greyhound,” celebrating the excitement of two-step dancing in “Sandy’s Swing,” or capturing the bitterness of loss in “Gentle Rain,” her music explores the full emotional spectrum—sometimes quirky and upbeat, sometimes lonely, but always genuine. Most mornings, you’ll find Sandy writing while still in bed, coffee in hand, letting her thoughts drift and her melodies form before the world fully wakes up.
On stage with her band, The Dark Stars, Sandy brings these stories to life with warmth and sincerity. Her live show crosses genres, moods, and generations, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a gathering of old friends than a formal concert. Whether you’re a music lover or just need some inspiration, Sandy’s show is a reminder of the simple magic of a well-told story and that it’s never too late to try something new, regardless of your age or circumstances. Catch Sandy Lecour & The Brilliant Dark Stars live at artsPlace Canmore on November 13, for a night of original music straight from the heart.
